Two sisters living in West Hartford, Jackie Procyk and Catherine Bailey, share a love of the television series Gilmore Girls that was set in the fictional Connecticut town of Stars Hollow. The show that premiered 25 years ago became so popular that it ran for seven years and became a cult classic, spawning many kinds of swag, parties and public events, and most recently a podcast named “Gabbing Gilmore,” co-hosted by the sisters on a bi-monthly basis.

There’s a small but mighty group of volunteers working to support families and caregivers who have children with disabilities in the West Hartford School district.

The Halloween Stroll is back—and it’s celebrating its silver anniversary. Originated by the non-profit organization, Moms & More, the 25-year-old Stroll is their main event of the year and is open to members and non-members alike. This year’s event is on Sat., Oct. 24 from 10:30am- to 12:30pm. (Rain date is Sun., Oct. 25.)

This year, The Aurora Women and Girls Foundation’s Luminary Celebration is on October 14 at the Bushnell’s Belding Theater and features keynote speaker Jennifer Rizzotti. It honors the “brilliant Luminaries,” the women and girls who are in the Aurora community as well as those who support it.

Art lovers had a field day at the WeHa Artists Emporium’s Art Stop on August 29. Eleven local artists set up outdoors for a beautiful day of talking art, buying art and selling art. There was an eclectic mix of media, including jewelry, paintings, ceramics, glass art, textiles, cookbooks, Henna art, and more.

There’s nothing better than having the whole street to yourself, even if there are hundreds of other people doing the same. Families and friends descended on LaSalle Road, Farmington Avenue, South Main Street, and Memorial Road Extension on August 30 for “Center Streets.” The annual event offers walking, biking and generally just enjoying the central area and all it has to offer—without cars.

Fleming’s Steakhouse and Wine Bar, located on South Main Street in West Hartford’s Center has been a fixture in the lively West Hartford food scene since it opened in 2008. Planted between the historic Noah Webster Library and the modern Crate and Barrel store, Fleming’s has recently refreshed its muted, masculine interior and updated its menu to reflect today’s dining preferences.

There’s a lot of fun packed into the new week-long celebration being hosted by the Mandell JCC. JLive is the first ever live arts festival, and it’s about creativity, community, and culture. Running from October 18-25, the week of offerings is designed for all ages and everyone, from all races and religions, is welcome, according to JCC Arts & Culture Director Ephi Stempler.
