It has been 25 years since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on New York City and Washington, D.C., killed nearly 3,000 people and changed so many lives forever.

Audrey Hepburn once said that “to plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow.” The Wethersfield Garden Club has been believing in tomorrow for 100 years. Founded in 1926 by a group of civic-minded women, the sole purpose was to stimulate a greater interest in flowers so that this town would be famed for its beautiful gardens.

It’s not often that high school students have an opportunity to put what they are learning into practice in a way that directly benefits someone else. The members of the JETS Engineering Design Team at Wethersfield High School were able to do just that and by using their knowledge and skills they enabled a young boy with a disability to walk.

August in Old Wethersfield brings outdoor theater to the lawn of the Keeney Memorial Cultural Center. It’s always a play by William Shakespeare performed by a local theater group called the Times Fool Co.

Mark Twain once said that “actions speak louder than words.” When one applies this quote to history, it is the actions of some unsung heroes that speak volumes.

Curt Leng was not born and bred here in Connecticut’s “most ancient” town. He has spent most of his personal and professional life in New Haven County. When he came to town government this past October to become the new economic development manager, he didn’t bring with him any preconceptions about Wethersfield and its business community. He brought a fresh slate.
