At the Newington Rotary Club, the mission that members live by is to “turn passion for change into action.” Add a little Australian hospitality from Outback Steakhouse Managing Partner Mark Adrain and you have a bloomin’ combination.

A former call center in Rocky Hill now has a higher calling. The Oasis of Life Christian Church’s new home is 31-B Inwood Road in the town’s industrial corridor, about a quarter mile down the road from its old strip mall storefront location. The first service in this larger, more functional space was held Jan. 11.

Before you know it, the Wethersfield High School Marching Band could be strutting its stuff in the emperor’s new clothes. Perhaps that’s a slight exaggeration. But the 66-year-old musical organization could be losing points in competitions because the 13-year-old uniforms are dinged and damaged and showing their age.

Old Wethersfield Stray & Kitten Rescue puts the “wow” in the “meow.” Since its inception in 2021, approximately 600 cats and kittens have been saved starting with the efforts of a woman who is allergic to, of all things, these finicky felines.

Through a series of meetings and events, it helps people see the community through different lenses. About 40 people belong to this organization whose mission is to increase interest in the visual arts by providing stimulating demonstrations and exhibitions.
