When longtime parks and recreation superintendent William DeMaio announced his retirement, it caught the attention of Scott Kieras. The two men were well acquainted and Kieras was working as the director of the Cromwell Recreation Department.

The United States of America is 250 years old this year and the town is planning multiple events to mark the occasion. It started by forming a Newington America 250 Committee and holding a logo design content.

Marco Tirillo didn’t have to walk far to move his belongings into his new office at John Wallace Middle School. His previous office was right next door.

William “Bill” DeMaio spent his entire career in public service. He worked for the town of Newington, then for the city of New Britain, and returned to his hometown to finish his career. The superintendent of Newington Parks and Recreation retired a few weeks ago and is looking forward to the next chapter of his life. He will be remembered by many for his indefatigable spirit and unwavering positive attitude.
