Talk about a Boy Scout always being prepared. Shalin Patel, 15, showed up to his conversation with Rocky Hill LIFE wearing a necktie. The 15-year-old rising junior at Rocky Hill High School had his facts and figures straight. He is a member of Troop 121 and hopes to earn the highest rank the Boys Scouts of America has to offer – Eagle scout.

In March of 2017 Lisa Zerio, then the director of Rocky Hill Parks and Recreation, contacted the Rocky Hill Historical Society about an old flag that had been stored in the town vault for many years. We expected another 48-star flag to add to our collection but what we found was an even greater treasure.

David McSergi is a human conduit. If the Rocky Hill resident went back in time, he would be a telephone switchboard operator plugging in lines to connect people, or a courier hand-delivering important messages, or perhaps even a newsboy shouting, “extra, extra!”

Call it a Christmas miracle, even if the idea was conceived at Christmastime, but not completed. Two friends have a casual conversation about crisscrossing the world and wind up raising thousands upon thousands of dollars to beat pediatric cancer. They also set a Guinness World Record while they were at it.

Pillows filled with cracked corn might seem like an unusual item to bond over. But for Emily Archambault and her daughter Amanda Archambault Burney making and selling the pillows strengthened their connection.

Amber and Banner were celebrities for a day at Corpus Christi School in Wethersfield. An assembly of excited students met the two dogs that are trained to serve people with disabilities including former military personnel who suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder.

A former call center in Rocky Hill now has a higher calling. The Oasis of Life Christian Church’s new home is 31-B Inwood Road in the town’s industrial corridor, about a quarter mile down the road from its old strip mall storefront location. The first service in this larger, more functional space was held Jan. 11.
